LADC Release Destinations

Lynchburg Adult Detention Center is the main adult local facility in Lynchburg, but it belongs to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority. Leaving LADC can mean bond, recognizance, dismissal, time served, sentence completion, or another form of community release. It can also mean movement to an Amherst, Bedford, Campbell, or Halifax BRRJA center. A person sentenced to state-responsible custody may move to a VADOC institution outside Lynchburg. Federal or ICE pickup creates another possible change of custodian.

The release destination is as important as the date. A transaction marked transfer establishes the end of the LADC stay while confirming that confinement continued. A bond or time-served entry can support community release, but another warrant or detainer can change the result. Ask BRRJA for the date, time, type, and destination of the custody-ending transaction. Then confirm the receiving authority when one is listed.

Confirm an LADC Release

The official BRRJA facility page links to a Lynchburg-specific JailTracker application. Use it as the live starting point, not as a permanent archive. BRRJA does not publish a distinct 24-hour or 72-hour release feed, an update cadence, or a released-record retention period. Its static pages also do not confirm every result field or guarantee a photo on each detail record.

1. Search the Lynchburg JailTracker using the full identity and save any jacket number, booking date, facility, and case number.
2. If the person is absent, check whether a court order supports release and whether another BRRJA center could hold the person.
3. Use Virginia VINE for a local or regional jail custody event, while remembering that “release” can mean transfer.
4. Search VADOC when a state sentence or state supervision is possible.
5. Request the BRRJA release transaction when the online sources do not state the type and destination.

LADC Release Records Contact

BRRJA operates LADC and is the likely custodian of the booking, placement, movement, and release transaction. The Lynchburg Sheriff performs court, civil-process, and inmate-transport functions, but the jail database should not be attributed to the Sheriff. A Lynchburg Police record may document arrest activity, while BRRJA holds the jail-side release event.

Ask for the booking or jacket number, booking date and time, release date and time, release type, and transfer destination or receiving authority. Request an advance estimate because the public material gives actual-cost rules rather than a flat release-record fee.

How LADC Fits BRRJA

LADC is the only adult jail physically in Lynchburg identified in the official local facility map. Yet BRRJA is a five-facility regional authority. The other documented centers are in Amherst, Bedford, Campbell, and Halifax. Research found no fixed assignment rule for a Lynchburg-connected detainee. That makes the operator and destination fields essential when a name vanishes from the Lynchburg view.

A regional move is not a release. Search the relevant BRRJA center and ask the authority for the movement or release disposition. A person may also remain under VADOC authority while housed in a regional jail, then move to a state institution. Physical location alone does not identify the legal custodian or prove that confinement ended.

Request an LADC Release Record

Virginia FOIA requests should identify existing records with reasonable detail. The custodian need not create a new report or answer a set of questions. A written request can ask for the booking and release record for a named person, the relevant booking date, and the exact existing fields that show departure and destination. Electronic delivery may reduce duplication cost.

The usual framework gives the public body five working days after receipt to produce records, cite a legal basis for withholding, produce redacted material, report that records cannot be found, or invoke an allowed extension. Actual access, search, and duplication costs may be charged. A deposit may be required when an estimate exceeds $200. Ask for a cost estimate and do not assume a fee that BRRJA has not published.

Adult routine initial-intake booking photographs may be requested under Virginia Code § 2.2-3706, subject to the temporary felony-investigation exception and other legal limits. Juvenile, sealed, and expunged records require different handling.

When Does LADC Release Inmates?

The official LADC pages do not publish a daily release schedule, weekend rule, exit door, family waiting area, property-return instruction, or transportation promise. Call 434-847-1300 for current logistics. An answer given by phone should be treated as a same-day operational confirmation, not a permanent published rule.

Court schedules do not supply the jail release time. Even after a court order, staff may need to receive the paperwork, review warrants and detainers, complete administrative steps, return property, and arrange a transfer. VADOC’s separate state-prison rule about release by 11:59 p.m. does not govern LADC and should not be used for family pickup plans.

Lynchburg has GLTC transit, but no official source reviewed identifies a direct LADC release shuttle, a route at the release exit, or an authorized pickup zone. Confirm transportation and the meeting point before traveling.

ICE Holds After LADC Release

An ICE detainer can make a local release look different from community release. ICE describes a detainer as a request for notice and up to 48 extra hours so the agency can assume custody. BRRJA may stop being the custodian even though the person never enters Lynchburg. The LADC record should be checked for a transfer destination or receiving authority.

ICE has no detention facility listed in Lynchburg. After a supported pickup, search the Online Detainee Locator System with the nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or exact name and country of birth. ICE states that its scope includes current detention and a limited recent-release period. A no-result response is inconclusive because exact matching, timing, and other exclusions apply.

Federal custody requires a separate path. USMS can place federal prisoners in contracted local space, so presence at LADC does not make the case local. Use the federal docket, then BOP if the person begins a federal sentence, or a specific USMS record request when public sources do not resolve the custody event.

LADC Release Records and History

Lynchburg records say BRRJA was created in November 1994, began operating member facilities in 1998, and opened a new central Lynchburg jail in fiscal year 2000. The history is more than background. It explains why a city arrest, a regional authority record, a physical jail, and a receiving agency can all appear in one custody path.

Release verification should follow that structure. Use the court file for legal authority, BRRJA for the LADC transaction, and the receiving system for continued custody or supervision. If records conflict, compare identifiers and dates before drawing a conclusion. A court disposition does not prove the exact gate time, and a jail departure does not by itself explain what happened to every charge.
