Halifax County Adult Detention Center is one of five adult detention centers in the documented BRRJA network. It is located outside Lynchburg and should not be described as a Lynchburg jail. Request electronic delivery and an advance cost estimate. Virginia FOIA fees are tied to actual costs, and no verified flat BRRJA release-record fee was published.
BRRJA Release System History
Lynchburg sources say the regional authority was created in November 1994 and began operating member facilities in 1998. A new central Lynchburg jail opened in fiscal year 2000. That history explains why the legal custodian, physical building, arresting jurisdiction, and later destination may not all be the same entity.

Halifax Release Under ICE Detainer
An ICE detainer can turn a local custody-ending event into federal pickup rather than community entry. ICE describes a detainer as a request for notice before release and for up to 48 additional hours so ICE can assume custody. The BRRJA record should distinguish the time Halifax custody ended from any later ICE custody event.
No ICE detention facility is listed in Lynchburg. Otherwise, use the first three letters of the first name and the complete last name, then apply optional filters only to separate matches.
A current VADOC result may point to a state prison, a local or regional jail under VADOC authority, a community corrections placement, or a probation and parole district. Read the placement. A prison result means custody continues. A district-office result can mean community supervision after physical release. VADOC updates daily and warns that information may be inaccurate or out of date.
The exact online date label is Projected Release Date. It is an estimate, not a completed departure from Halifax or VADOC. For a state-facility release, an Order of Release, Conditions of Parole, or Conditions of Probation can establish the later event. If both custody and supervision have ended and no public result appears, VADOC provides Form 17 for inactive inmate or CCAP probationer/parolee records.
